it has a story XD

Quote from: SEGA
Sonic’s universe is thrown into chaos when a mysterious new power creates ‘time holes’ which pull him and his friends back through time.  As a result, he encounters some surprises from his past history including Classic Sonic, Sonic as he was in 1991.

Modern Sonic and Classic Sonic must defeat this strange new enemy, save their friends, and find out who really is behind this diabolical deed…
well hopefully when they say new, my guess of it being the partnership of old and new Robotnik is wrong, lol, maybe it's SatAm Robotnik...then they should be worried, but most likely will be some random thingy... (And the bad guy is...The modern day Stereotypical Sonic fan! who says new Sonic sucks because he has green eyes and boycotted Sonic4 by buying other Sonic games*) man, can't wait for this game!

(also, even though the Sonic community would shit bricks if it were to ever happen, but I hope young Sonic talks, and sounds younger...with some attitude)

*I swear, whoever thought of that idea should jump off a two story building, that idea isn't even boycotting technically, theres not even a word for that!except one...Stupid!

...Why was our Generations thread not here already?
Huh.

...Anyway, I played the demo today. It's limited for some reason - I'm assuming all copies are gonna stop working 17 days from now.

The demo only lets you play Green Hill Zone (1 Act) as Classic Sonic. It's extended to about two or three times the length of the original level, which forms only the first part of this version. The graphics are pretty good - the camera is actually at a decent range, and zooms in and out at required areas. However, it all looks too colourful and 'busy' - it's easy to lose track of where you are. A lot of the time it's hard to tell whether something is part of the background or if it's solid, so I fell through a lot of places I expected to land on.

Spindashing can be controlled by either the classic method (hold down + jump), or a separate button (X in the 360's case). Pretty cool as you can use X to stop running and charge the spindash. It has the gripe I had with Sonic CD - you have to hold the button down long enough or he just performs a weak little somersault and doesn't really go anywhere. =/ I kept expecting to be able to Homing Attack, which was a little annoying. XP

Coming Late 2011, apparently.

I am actually a little disappointed with it so far, just a little though.
that game handled a little too much like Sonic4, and I was expecting the complete classic experience, I was mislead to believe that it was going to be everything that they considered classic Sonic, everything I considered classic, but instead I got a re-done Sonic4 with some fixed mechanics, but other strange inconveniences, such as:
)what Sol pointed out, the spin-dash feels like the one from S:CD, if you don't charge all the way it only takes you a few feet and you a sitting duck.

)the jump height just seems so short, in the old games he's jumping about 3-4 times his height, because jumping high is just one of his special abilities. But in this game he's only jumping 1 1/2 his height...he can't even reach a small tree top, which was annoying cause I couldn't reach Buzzbombers sometimes when I knew I could have IF this was classic Sonic.

)This game, like Sonic 4, and really alot of Sonic games these days, starts out by basically playing itself, with this games excuse being to just show off scenery, which is fine if the level wasn't so full of those auto-running scenic routes, kills gameplay i'd say.

)And last for now, the most annoying thing to me is the lack of Classic Sonic physics!, when I run downhill, and go into freeroll, I expect to go twice the speed I was just going! but no, if im not holding forward, I'll stop in my tracks, and even if, I'll slow down anyways, if im not holding forward even after a forward momentum should take place, I'll stop, and that's no good

So far though, I am loving the work into scenery, just on my NON-HD sceens it gets hard to see stuff, everythings fully textured and hard to make out from the backdrop at times, but still awesome looking.
I also love the music so far! (well, the only game thats let me down on music nowadays would be Sonic rush series, catchy at first, too repetitive and annoying though)
And I think I have to get this game anyhow, so I can make sure they don't butcher the Sonic series like DJ hero butchered good music.

I swear Sega will totally lose my faith if they screw this up, cause this is just something your not supposed to screw up AT ALL...my eyes on you SEGA! (you corporate bastards)

my honest opinion, I think Bungies (well...343's) Halo anniversary is being better treated then Sonic generations, maybe cause Sonic team is only a licensing group now Idunno, they used to kick ass, now they hand out the Sonic title and image to gets it's ass kicked.

Ohgawd, yeah. Sonic Unleashed was pretty bad with that, to the point that you could just about play the day levels one-handed.

(before I start, I've noticed different "Greenhill zones" nods in that stage, like Turquoise hill zone from triple trouble, and Emerald Hill. apparently the game is gonna have many nods like that)

I also asked repeatedly "WHY in the world does this need a Havoc engine?" and then I realised it's cause game makers are to lazy nowadays to make their own physics anymore...which is a bit disappointing.

also, I may be the only person ever to say this (and im gonna get judged for saying so)...I think the classic Sonic is a tad to fast on his own speed source (spin dash) thing is, he went a good pace in classic games, hell we went tad slower in S4, but on top of it all, the stiffness of his speed, or controls makes it a little hard to do anything at that speed. besides brakes, cause if your holding anydirection but forward youll stop dead in your tracks...)
trying to jump over a rock for example, unless you know that rocks gonna show up before it's on screen,
you 1) not gonna have enough time to react,
 2)gonna jump slow and
3) not gonna jump very high anyhow...stupid jump height.
in other words, your gonna hit the rock

I am very afraid there gonna screw this up overall, but I just gotta see how the game goes, so I might end up getting it anyways.
(bad I know)
also, i've recently heard the City escape theme for this game...it's okay and all, but didn't sit right with me, like if that was only for classic Sonic, they should take out lyrics. and I am hoping that they just port the original theme for modern Sonic! there is nothing wrong with that, it's an anniversary game, it's allowed to.

(UPDATE)
Leave it to Crush40 to remind me how badass Sonic is.
Sonic Boom 2011: Part 2: Crush 40 Live Part 1

Crush40 has the power/potential to even make Amys SA:Crying Chao/SA2B theme sound better, they soooo could if they wanted to, lol
and god dangit, im only a couple of hours away from this event...man did I miss out.

Also have you heard the City escape for modern Sonic!? hardcore! XD

The Havoc engine is shite. I know cuz I have a few games that run it, and Fallout 3 is the one with the least problems. And I think that's after extensive patching.
Long sentence short: Havok is crap, and glitches are prominent in games that use them. New Gaygas is completely unplayable atm.

all i know is that it's comming out around my birthday, it be the first thing im going for, whether it be my money, the obtained money of the day, or if I have to beg. the last game I actually got was on my last birthday
(B:BC2, which if you remember that crappy target related event, I was deserving of some new form of entertainment.)
so almost a whole dang year has gone by, and the closest thing I got to a new game was the Saturn which I still didnt get a working copy of Guardian Heroes for...which cause of that only lasted for a couple weeks of entertainment.
And besides borrowing some of Wills games (almost all the time...he just left'em here) and the demos I keep downloading, not anything new has been on this Xbox!
I repeatedly to the GC for Sonic Mega collection/Gems, and other classics for extreme needs of boredom removal, at the cost of nostalgia.
...
so yea, im most definitely getting this game, it is *dramatic pause* Priority one!
and priority 1.2 is Battlefield 3,
1.3 Halo anniversary,
and 2 is Ghost Recon:Future soldier

...so yea, with all this pressure on my entertainment needs, you'd better not suck Sonic Generations!

And Halo anniversary is a joke... lol
but really, I watched all these previews talking about "how hard they worked to keep the gameplay as identical to Halo:CE as possible", when they said IN THAT PREVIEW they directly used HALO:CE code for the entire game, this entire game, is just a Texture change, skins added, a giant MOD/PORT of Halo:CE, the only work being put into this "Labor of love" is the new textures, possible with Halo Reaches graphics engine and game models
(*pfft* Congrats! you've learned the ctrl+C/ ctrl+V command! lol.)
The many Halo fans to have seen that should be at least a tad insulted at the lie, but will be blinded because "OMG it HALO:CE, KICKASS!" so yea, it better be $40 like advertised, cause it ain't worth $60 in my opinion. (frign 343, I can find another copy of the original Halo:CE for under $40, youd better make it worth it!)

as for Sonic Generations
while impossible to cookie-cut the code of the original Sonic, I hope they do a better job of getting a similar classic Sonic physics, unlike 343, they are building this labor of love from Scratch!* for the fans and not overcrediting half-assyness. This much, I very much appreciate.
(I also appreciate that this game might be $40 as well, looking forward to it still)

...I know, im just ranting.
as much as 343 will talk big talk on how hard they are working when they arent (besides Halo4...heh) I am still looking forward to it, and since I know EXACTLY what to expect (besides look of flood) then it better be just that.
also just like to add...about Sonic Generations, I hope it has some sort of two playability, and it be neat if you can change what rules you play with (S2 rules, S3 rules, Sonic colors rules /modern/)  and on top of that, I hope for classic 2P stages, cause they were great.
god damn wishfull thinking...

Generations looks pretty awesome so far. The leaked stage list... ehh, I might've chosen a couple of different, but it's not bad. Sadly, I didn't get to play the demo (Gold only for the first 10 days, and then apparently I have parental controls, for fuck's sake), but I've heard the physics aren't spot-on. Even then, I don't think it'll be a big deal, as long as they're close enough.

In any case, I want to play modern City Escape and Chemical Plant ASAP!

SONIC GENERATIONS Gameplay 5 Chemical Plant - Classic and Modern! Plus City Escape.

Ohh, Chemical Plant, how I love you.
On thought I had though after the stage was announced was "If there are those damn spider things and no second player, we're fucked."

So, I have played the demo of the game and it was grand. Seriously, it worked well for what I saw, though you could tell it was still an earlier build due to some rough-around-the-edge-work, such as the rings disappearing after a few seconds with no warning rather than flash and fade. That and there were some glitches that I fell into for not running fast enough at a particular point.

Whether they're addressed or not is no real concern to me though, what I played was a substantially fun game that I hope to own and play the rest of at some point =)
Until then... *reads Sonic-related news sites... refreshes page... refreshes page...*

omg...that was...that was...I want this game. Man where to start.

>Chemical plant<
-I like how they redid the theme, the synths sounded like the classic, but there were neat percussion, same beat, just newer!
-I love how the design is basically whats its supposed to be BUT your on the surface of the base so the background is all the polluted skies and factories belching smoke!
-and the way the enemies are place (yes I noticed this) are spaced out well because that stage's challenge was the obstacles! plus it lets you gain speed! (unless your underwater...also like water music variant)
-AND the modern Sonic variant was EPIC! Music, level, speed and all! That almost brought a tear to my eye.

and the there was

>City Escape<
The first footage I just saw of modern sonic play...and everything about it made me cry tears of joy at this beauty! Oh My GOD!, the music was Wonderful! the skating looked EPIC.
And the classic Sonic part looked awesome too! (although in just my opinion, they shoulda made some no lyrics version of the song instead of that, and not make it change into something pretty (love Endless mine ;D ) but it should've been a variant to unlock or something...

either way, this is the game! I want this so badly..NOW.....

*reads Sonic-related news sites with CD* "refresh it man, it's been like...a whole two minutes, something new must be up".
